Yesterday, the diocesan priest José María Barquero González died at the age of 74 in Murcia.

His mortal remains are being veiled in the funeral of Alguazas and the funeral Mass, presided over by the Bishop of Cartagena, will be held today, at 6:00 p.m., in the Parish of San Onofre de Alguazas.

José María Barquero was born in Alguazas on October 28, 1945 and was baptized in the Parish of San Onofre, in the same locality, on November 11 of the same year.

At the age of 14, he entered the Minor Seminary of San José, later moving on to the Major Seminary of San Fulgencio, where he studied Philosophy and Theology.

He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1968, in the parish of Santa Eulalia de Murcia, by Bishop Miguel Roca Cabanellas, Bishop of Cartagena.

After his priestly ordination he held the following positions:

- 1969-1972: Coadjutor of the Parish of San Mateo de Lorca.

- 1972-1974: Coadjutor of the Parish of San Pedro de Lorca.

- 1975-1977: Treasurer of the Parish of Our Lady of the Ancient of Monteagudo (Murcia).

- 1977-1978: Treasurer of the Parish of Santa María Magdalena de Ceutí.

- 1978-1980: Treasurer of the Parish of the Holy Family of La Arboleja (Murcia).

- 1980-1982: Treasurer of the Parish of San José de Abanilla.

- 1982-1984: Cooperator of Our Lady of the Rosary of Santomera.

- 1984-1988: Parish Priest of Our Lady of Socorro de La Ñora (Murcia).

- 1988-1995: Parish Priest of San Pedro de Espinardo (Murcia).

- 1996-1999: Cura in charge of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Baños y Mendigo (Murcia).

- 1999-2000: Cure in charge of the Parish of San Ginés de San Ginés (Murcia).

- 2001-2001: Cura in charge of the hermitage of Pedriñales de Era Alta (Murcia).

- 2001-2007: Cura in charge of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of El Ranero (Murcia).
