The Governing Council has authorized the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia to hire the works of recovery of the original layout and conditioning section of the Northwest Greenway passing through Alguazas, amounting to 351,747 euros.
In particular, it is planned to adapt the route by actions to improve the road surface, drainage, signage, protection, trees and footbridge crossing a road at different levels.
This will be done taking advantage of the old railway traces its way through the town, in about three kilometers long, which will join the rest of the original route of the Northwest Greenway in this county.
He said fixed route had been unable so far by the existence of easements that prevented it.
In total, this stretch of improvement journey takes about eight kilometers.
Thus, it contributes to increasing the number of users of the said road and therefore potential tourist hostel guests next to the station Alguazas.
The works, which have a budget of 351,747 euros financed by 80 percent with European funds Feder and the rest by the Community, are part of the Plan of comprehensive improvement of the Northwest Greenway, whose aim is to focus on the ecotourism, cycling, hiking and pilgrim tourism in the Region of Murcia.
This action is included in the measures promoted by the regional government to promote sustainable tourism and sports in the Region of Murcia.
The aim is to strengthen the use of greenways and other roads and paths pilgrimage to Caravaca de la Cruz on the occasion of the celebration of the Holy Year 2017.
Currently, the Northwest Greenway, between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz through 78 kilometers, is traveled by an average of 265,000 walkers and cyclists a year.
With the overall improvement is expected a substantial increase in the number of users.
