The Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment has commissioned the project to restore the old railway line of the Northwest Greenway as it passes through the town of Alguazas, covering a stretch of about 2.5 kilometers.
The initiative will also involve the preparation of the journey that continues to the vicinity of the former municipal treatment plant located about three kilometers from the town.
As reported by the director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, the performance will be financed 80 percent with FEDER funds and the remaining 20 percent, with funds from the Community.
The project, explained, "aims to increase the attractiveness of the route, eliminating the alternative route of the Greenway running through the streets of this town, and improve significantly the firm stretch to the old treatment plant to which it can not act at the time because the existence of buried pipes very superficially under the platform. "
The execution of the works is scheduled for 2016 and this will help increase the number of users of the Greenway in this area and guests tourist hostel located next to the station Alguazas.
More broadly, the action is included in the package of measures promoted by the Ministry of Economic, Tourism and Employment Development to promote sustainable and sports tourism in the region, and to strengthen the use of natural means as a way of Green Roads pilgrimage to Caravaca de la Cruz overlooking the Holy Year 2017.
Today, the Northwest Greenway, between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz through 78 kilometers, is traveled by an average of 265,000 users per year.
